Responsible Materials for Pool Tables: What to Ask and Verify

Our Environmental Commitment - Pool Table Portfolio

Material choices for a pool table deserve specific questions: where the wood comes from, which parts use it, what finishes are applied and whether components can be repaired. A natural material or premium price alone does not establish a product’s environmental performance.

    Documented Wood Sourcing

For a certified-wood claim, ask for the applicable product documentation and certificate details. FSC chain of custody tracks eligible forest-based materials through the supply chain. A supplier’s general certification does not, by itself, show that every item sold carries the same claim.

    Checking Reforestation Claims

If reforestation is part of a purchase proposal, ask which program is involved, how contributions are calculated, where planting occurs and how results are tracked. A tree-for-tree promise needs records; it should not be assumed from the use of wood.

    Finishes, Adhesives and Production Evidence

Ask for the actual finish and adhesive specifications and any relevant emissions testing. The FTC advises that non-toxic claims require competent and reliable evidence. Energy, waste and carbon claims also need a defined scope and supporting data rather than a broad “eco-friendly” label.

    A Repairable, Well-Specified Product

A practical specification can identify timber or veneer, finish, replaceable cloth and cushions, service access and available spare parts. Compare these details alongside playing requirements and design preferences; durability is useful, but it is not a substitute for documented sourcing.

    Checking Conservation Partnerships

Conservation partnerships should identify the organization, the activity and the nature of the support. Ask for current documentation before relying on a donation or habitat-restoration claim in a purchasing decision.

Questions to Include in Your Order

For your Pool Table Portfolio order, request available sourcing and material documentation for the particular model and options. Keep that evidence with the final specification and care instructions. Clear, limited claims make it easier to compare products and to distinguish documented attributes from broader environmental aspirations.
