Enjoy our modern designs
In the Gulf, the Majlis is more than a room. It is the heart of hospitality—where news is shared, business is conducted, and bonds are strengthened.
Traditionally, the focus has been on the seating—the diwaniya, the carpets, and the coffee. But as interior design in Doha, Dubai, and Riyadh moves toward a more modern luxury aesthetic, the function of the Majlis is expanding. It is becoming a space for active entertainment as much as conversation.
The Aesthetic: Gold, Brass,
and Geometry
The challenge for our clients in the GCC is distinct: how do you introduce a Western game table into an Eastern space without disrupting the harmony of the room?
At Pooltableportfolio, we believe the answer is to treat the pool table not as sports equipment, but as a piece of jewel-box furniture that complements the grandeur of the Majlis.
In a formal Majlis, the pool table cannot feel imported in the wrong sense of the word. It has to speak the same language as the room around it.— On integrating a game table into traditional Gulf interiors
A standard oak table often feels too rustic for a formal Majlis, which is typically defined by marble floors, intricate plasterwork, and high ceilings. To bridge that gap, the table must echo the room’s own visual vocabulary.
Metal accents allow the table to echo chandeliers, hardware, and the polished finishes common in luxury Qatari and Emirati interiors.
These exotic veneers hold their own against Persian carpets, heavy drapery, and highly detailed architectural surroundings.
Custom rail sights can subtly reference regional art history without becoming literal or decorative for the sake of it.
The table should feel like a deliberate extension of the Majlis rather than a casual recreational object dropped into it.
The “Activity” of
Hospitality
The Majlis is designed for flow. Guests enter, greet, and settle along the perimeter. A pool table placed centrally changes that dynamic by inviting movement, but it must not dominate the room.
Because the table often sits at the center of a formal hall, it has to read as luxury furniture even when no one is playing.
Leather drop pockets keep the table visually aligned with the formality of the space and avoid cheapening the overall composition.
A dining top allows the table to transform for large feasts, Ramadan gatherings, or any event where the room’s role shifts from play to service.
These cloth tones sit more naturally beside rich reds, golds, and traditional upholstery than standard sporting colors ever do.
The Logistics: Climate
and Export
Shipping a masterpiece to the Middle East requires more than aesthetics. While the Majlis itself is climate-controlled, the journey there is not.
We use kiln-dried hardwoods and ply-core construction to resist warping and cracking during extreme climate shifts, especially the transition from outdoor humidity to powerful dry air conditioning.
We also crate our tables specifically for air or sea freight, so delicate metallic finishes and heavy slate arrive in Doha, Dubai, or Riyadh in pristine condition.
The point is not simply to ship a table. It is to make sure the table arrives ready to belong in a room where finish, proportion, and presentation matter at every level.
A luxury pool table in a Majlis is a modern extension of an ancient tradition: a way to honor your guests through entertainment, activity, and beauty. When designed correctly, it does not interrupt the room’s harmony. It completes it.
